At least four people are feared dead after a bus they were travelling in veered off the road and plunged into a valley at Mazeras, Kilifi County on Friday.
An unconfirmed number of passengers were also injured in the 6am incident.
Coast traffic commandant Emmanuel Okanda said operations are ongoing to rescue passengers trapped in the ill-fated TSS bus that was heading to Mombasa from Nairobi.
The accident comes two days after a Modern Coast bus caught fire near Mtito Andei on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
The passengers and crew members were evacuated from the bus which was on its way to Nairobi from Mombasa at the time of the incident.
The vehicle was extensively damaged by the fire whose cause is yet to be established.
Before this, 43 people died when a tanker carrying highly flammable chemicals lost control and rammed into 14 other vehicles near Kinungi trading center, Naivasha.
Witnesses said the driver of the tanker lost control and hit the other vehicles, causing huge flames reducing them to shells.
“It was unbelievable, there are bodies burnt beyond recognition. Many others were left nursing injuries some of them serious,” said a witness.
